When you try to open a Microsoft document from a shared folder on the network, you get an yellow ribbon on top of the document and asks your permission to enable editing. This is due to the protected view being activated on your computer.

To disable protected view in Microsoft Office 2010 follow the steps below.

In any of the Microsoft Application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc..), click Options under the File menu

Click the Trust Center link on the left and then click the Trust Center Settings button

Click on the Protected View link on the left and uncheck the following:

  • Enable protected view for files originating...
  • Enable protected view for files located...
  • Enable protected view for Outlook...

Click OK and OK again

The Protected view is now disabled on your computer.
